Vintage Kokopelli Southwestern Sterling Silver Dangle Earrings
A fabulous pair of vintage sterling silver dangle earrings hand made by Kay Johnson, depicting a Kokopelli — the humpback flute-playing fertility deity — is a stamp work cut out in silhouette style but hinged and dangling below. The upper oval earring dangle is decorated with an inlay bar of black onyx, with red coral and turquoise vertical stripes as accents.
Oval form measures 1-1/8 inch long, with the dangling Kokopelli taking the earring length to 1-7/8 inch long, not counting the french wire. One earring is signed Sterling, with Kay Johnson's bent / broken arrow hallmark.
Kay Johnson is an anglo silversmith in Arizona who began making jewelry in the 1970s, developing his talents through the guidance of local Navajo silversmiths.
