A beautiful and rather unusual star-shaped art glass basket, likely a nut or sweetmeat dish dating to the late Victorian era. The cased basket has an inner white lining that has been rolled in frit of various colors - pink, yellow, plum red, and sage green - with the added sparkle of silver foil flecks, all cased in a layer of crystal clear glass. The clear reeded handle is pulled to an inverted V form and applied at the sides with a pressed starburst-type design. Unsigned, believed to be either English or Czechoslovakian / Bohemian art glass.
Basket measures 4-1/2 inch in diameter and 2-1/2 inch high to the rim, with a handle height of 6 inch. In excellent condition, with no nicks, chips, or cracks noted. There is a bit of roughness to the edge of one handle side that, with jeweler loupe inspection, is from the starburst pressing, and an unfinished pontil mark.
A true beauty!
