Antique Royal Doulton Florence Covered Transferware Server
Beautiful antique Doulton (Royal Doulton) Florence transferware oval covered vegetable server or possibly soup tureen decorated with alternating cartouche images featuring what appears to be cherubs and floral urns in the medallions. The transfer pattern is designed with warm colors of tan and reddish brown against a creamy ivory background, which is then finished with ornate scrolled leaves for the handles on each side and the lid finial.
Measuring 7-1/2 inch wide, 10-3/8 inch long (12 inch, handle to handle), and 2-3/4 inch high to the rim (approx. 5-1/2 inch to the top of the finial), this lidded piece is marked with the crowned Doulton coronet hallmark with England added, which dates to approx. 1891 to 1902. The design registry number (Rd No. 139893) was registered in 1889, which suggests this particular piece dates to the earlier end of the range for the crowned Royal Doulton mark.
With an estimated age of up to 128 years, it's reasonable to expect this piece to show signs of wear. I find no chips, but there is a hairline visible on the inner rim of the base and crazing in the pottery form showing on the underside of the base. While it still might be up to using for its original intended purpose, it would best serve your home decor with its beauty and appeal on display.
