Vintage 1930s Luhrs Beistle Heart Honeycomb Tissue With Love To My Valentine
A nice vintage honeycomb tissue paper heart, pierced by Cupid's arrow that reads in two parts With Love - To My Valentine. The heart opens up to have a flat back and has a string at the top so it will hang on the wall. Measures 8-3/4" long.
The center spine is marked Made USA - Patent 1809593, a patent number for this heart-shaped Folding Ornament of Expansible Tissue filed by (Henry) H.E. Luhrs in February 1930. (For those not familiar with the Luhrs name, he was the son-in-law of Martin Luther (M.L.) Beistle and eventually became president of the Beistle company.)
In fabulous condition, with a slight curl to the bottom tip of the tissue. As appears to be the case with Beistle Valentine's honeycomb tissue of that era, the color is more of an orange, not quite red.
