1940s German Blue Wild Rose Decorative Plate Gilt Trim
A gorgeous German porcelain plate decorated with a lone, large blue wild rose in full bloom off to one side, accompanied by a smaller rose bud peeking open, and three small roses scattered around the waffled rim. Adding a soft veil of color, there is a misting of powder blue and pale pink alternating at the rim, and a hint of mint green blending to the creamy yellow leaves. The plate is then finished with gilt trim leaves and scrolls at the rim, and hand-painted gold beads to serve as stamen tips.
Measures 10-5/8 inch in diameter, and is in excellent condition, with no nicks, chips, or cracks. Marked CICO China - Made in Germany - US Zone. Researching this mark, I find where it has appeared as a decorator's mark for Carl Schumann porcelain wares, which makes sense, given that Bavaria was a primary region of the American zone of occupation between 1945 and 1949.
A beautiful plate with an unusual look and fabulous appeal!
