Pair of Exotic Bird Royal Winton Grimwades Chintz Square Plates
A sweet pair of Royal Winton plates in the Exotic Bird pattern, featuring bright, colorful birds amidst flowers of matching color, all against a creamy ivory background. These plates measure 9 inches corner to corner and are 7 inch wide. I've seen this plate shape referred to as the Orleans shape, but have yet to confirm that through available references.
Both plates show the typical light crazing throughout and just a whisper of wear to the gilt trim around the edges. One plate has small nicks on the underside of two corners measuring 3mm and 1mm wide, while the other plate shows a hairline, none of which is evident from the front.
Marked with a green Grimwades Royal Winton Ivory England mark, first used in the 1930s.
