1957 Buffalo China Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol Plate depicting the artwork of Buffalo China artist Rix Jennings with Scrooge hanging out his store window, telling a boy on the street, " .. Not the little prize Turkey ... The big one!" as his plans are to buy a Christmas turkey for the Cratchets.
NOTE: This is one of a few 1950s era plates I am offering from Buffalo China, which you will find featured below.
Plate reverse is marked as follows:
"Greetings - The 1957 exclusive edition of our Dickens Christmas plate has been made for your collection by the skilled craftsmen here at Buffalo China, Inc. The scene — as visualized by our artist, Rix Jennings — depicts Ebenezer Scrooge in his newly acquired and reformed state of mind after the visitation of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. This newest plate is but a small and inadequate gesture on our part to express to you our appreciation for helping to make our pottery a nice place to work. Our very best wishes then for you and yours! / Buffalo China, Inc. / Buffalo, N.Y. / 1957
Plate measures 9-5/8 inch in diameter.
In excellent vintage condition, with no nicks, chips, or cracks. There are a few superficial surface scratches and a foreign fleck under the glaze at the bottom rim. Reverse shows evidence of the stilt marks having been ground / polished smooth/flat, and the paint transfer on the back has smeared a bit.
Prepacked weight (in original box): 2 lb. 2 oz.
NOTE: For those interested in this and/or any of the other Christmas plates I have listed, I'm happy to combine shipping where and to the extent possible. Feel free to message me for a more accurate weight/cost on combined shipping, making sure to provide the ship-to zip code.
