Brown Aesthetic Movement Alcock Stratford Soup Tureen Underplate

$40.00

No, I don't have the soup tureen or ladle in H. Alcock & Co's lovely Stratford antique aesthetic transferware pattern, but if you're looking for the underplate for the tureen or an oval platter for display, here you go!

A montage of ribbon, border, and band -- each decorated in Japanese style -- graces the upper portion of the platter, while below is a diamond-shaped panel, flower and scroll at the base, with the upper half providing a miniature view of butterflies in nature. To the right, asymmetrical balance is found in the wisps of what may be japonica, all in a chocolate brown transfer print.

Over the years, a fine, uniform crazing has developed, and there are a few small glaze pops and flakes on the front, but none that detract from the pattern's beauty.

Tray measures 15" long and 10-1/2" wide. Double marked on the underside, with a brown stamp that reads "Stratford - H. Alcock & Co. - Cobridge - England" and a blind, pressed British registry diamond/lozenge mark used from 1868-1883, with the word "Ivory" above.
